To keep our students safe, we will not have a Christmas performance this year. We are also waiting until a later date to decide if we will have the Holy Family School Festival of the Arts. Please check back later for more information.
Opportunities to see Dance
One of my absolute favorite professional dance companies is The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. They tour through Chicago every year. I know it's hard to get up there and it's not cheep, but I wanted to share because Revelations is one of the most beautiful, Christian works that I have ever seen. Every time I've seen it, I've felt a renewed faith and excitement. Students in all classes will learn a piece of Revelations in a mini unit every other year.
Here's the link to the Auditorium Theater which may be presenting Ailey if it's safe in the spring.
I also teach at Peoria Ballet and consider it my "ballet family." Last year the whole school took a field trip to see The Nutcracker performed with the Heartland Symphony Orchestra with the Sugar Plum Fairy and Cavalier performed by stars of the Joffrey Ballet.
The spring show is tentatively planned to be Cinderella at Five Points.
Central Illinois Ballet also produces shows throughout the year. I took my daughters to see their version of the Nutcracker in December 2018 and it was lovely.
In December, my parents invited me to a production called This Moment in Time produced by Northwoods Church in Peoria. I was told that they do this every year, and I will definitely try to go next year. You must get tickets to have a reservation, but there is no cost. It was a dance and music celebration of the birth of our lord complete with a drum corps descending from the catwalks and aerial dance. The dancers in this production were beautiful, and I love family outings that focus on the real meaning of Christmas!
